Beware of Labor's Trojan Horse for Virginia Businesses

Free Enterprise Watch was in Roanoke today with an 11-foot wooden Trojan horse to demonstrate that Governor Kaine is presenting Virginia's businesses with a gift - an economic development plan "filled" by the interests of organized labor. Unions gave Tim Kaine more than $1.55 million in campaign and PAC contributions in the last year. He has appointed, among others, the former president of the AFL-CIO and the VEA to key advisory positions.

We have seen labor contribute more than $315,000 to anti-business candidates and groups this year alone. Free Enterprise Watch attended the governor's economic development sessions and noted that they were attended almost solely by government employees. The business community was left unrepresented.

“In this dynamic and competitive global economy we need to be innovative in our policies and ideas for economic development - allowing for more freedom in the market place in order to nurture success. We take great pride in our Right-to-Work law and its vital role in making Virginia the top state for business,” said Mike Reynold, Executive Director of Free Enterprise Watch.

“What we don’t want to see is organized labor strangle our economic growth. The historic amount of money labor has invested in the current Administration and other anti-business allies is troubling and causes great concern for how economic development policy and regulatory decisions are going to be made. That’s why we are here today.”
